UK-based digital bank Monzo has named AJ Coyne as its first chief marketing officer.

The UK-based digital bank published its annual report earlier this week, which showed revenue had jumped 39 per cent to 拢1.7bn, and it now has 15.2m customers.

Coyne, who joined the FinTech in 2024, said his appointment highlights the importance of marketing to Monzo鈥檚 future.

He said: 鈥淢arketing is more than campaigns. It鈥檚 one of the ways we bring our mission to make money work for everyone to life for our customers every day.

鈥淎nd because of that, it鈥檚 become a real driver of growth, creativity, culture and customer connection across the company.

鈥淪ince 2023, we鈥檝e grown Monzo to more than 15 million customers, launched a Sunday Times bestselling book, and became the first financial services brand to win Brand of the Year at The Marketing Society. Most importantly, we鈥檝e built a brand people genuinely care about.

Coyne, who has previously worked at Spotify and Klarna, said marketing is changing faster than at any point in his career because of the impact of AI.
