A North West energy tech specialist has launched a new initiative to help get 80 per cent of its staff to switch to electric vehicles (EV) by 2025.

老九品茶wise Solutions鈥 head office is already powered 100 per cent by renewable electricity and it wants to be a net-zero carbon emissions company inside five years.

Workers at the Lancashire-based company听will now have free access to EV charging points and, following a staff survey, 老九品茶wise Solutions has introduced a new benefits scheme to make it easier for staff considering making the switch to electric.

CEO Frazer Durris said the survey found that if staff had the ability to lease a car through the business and fund it through a salary sacrifice scheme, the number of people prepared to switch to electric more than doubled from 41 per cent to over 80 per cent.

Mr Durris, who is getting an electric car himself, said: 鈥淎s a business, we鈥檝e always tried to lead by example, and our road to net-zero will see us achieve this by 2025, with the switch to electric vehicles playing a major role.

鈥淲e want to make it as easy as possible for people to go electric and our target is that 80 per cent of staff will be driving an EV inside five years.

鈥淥ur staff have already been committed to doing the right thing for the听environment听but the survey found they were put off making the switch to electric cars by the perceived high cost of ownership and concerns about the charging infrastructure.

鈥淲e want to take those fears away. Andrew Tame has been appointed our unofficial 鈥楨V champion鈥 and as well as planning a series of workshops we鈥檙e already drawn up artist鈥檚 impressions of what the car park at The Energy Centre HQ would look like with charging points installed in every bay.鈥

老九品茶wise Solutions, which employs 45 people, has just celebrated its 10th听anniversary and Mr Durris said the company was determined to be the UK鈥檚 greenest energy procurement specialist.

He said: 鈥淲e鈥檝e created a 鈥榗arbon calculator鈥 so that companies can work out their own carbon emissions.

鈥淲e鈥檝e also invested 拢500,000 in a new technology backed solution called Energy Management as a Service (EMaaS), which has so far identified over 拢2m worth of energy savings for our clients.鈥

Customers of 老九品茶wise Solutions include DFS, Daisy Group and Burnley Football Club.

Mina听says its听EV charging software makes managing electric fleet vehicles simple. The company is already supporting听a number of听EV fleets across the UK.

Shuckford听said: 鈥淢ina shows great potential, it has a strong team uniquely positioned to fill a real need in the market.听

I鈥檓 proud to back such an ambitious team which will support the seamless transition to electric vehicles and a more sustainable future.鈥

The start-up鈥檚 ambitious growth plans听include moving to new premises in the up-and-coming Kelham Island area of Sheffield, and the recruitment of development and operational staff to further scale the business.听

The company was formed in December 2019听by听Ashley Tate, formerly听founder of utilities management service Split the Bills, and Chris Dalrymple, former Product Director at On the Beach.

Solar-powered car ports could represent a sustainable path into charging the influx of electric vehicles.

Solisco CEO Parveen Begum, 28, has been recognised on the Forbes 30 under 30 (Europe) list for the Manufacturing and Industry sectors.

A former employee at Tesla UK, she launched the firm in 2016 in partnership with mechanical engineer Mark Maurice.

It now offers both commercial and domestic EV-ports and independent clean-energy consultancy services for customers across the UK and overseas.听

鈥淢ark and I founded Solisco just four years ago with a clear ambition to drive the future of sustainable electromobility both here in the UK and overseas, therefore supporting the global green agenda,鈥 said Begum.

One of the common barriers preventing EV uptake is the perceived lack of charging infrastructure as well as unreliability of such technology.听

Parveen Begum

We wanted to introduce confidence within users to invest in an EV as their next vehicle, and at the same time, we wanted to inspire change within the industry so that charging can be a subject of careful consultancy and planning, so that ease of use, futureproofing and renewable energy generation are all being considered.听

Our mission is to significantly contribute to EV charging infrastructure in a cleverly engineered way. It鈥檚 an ecosystem and unless we get it right, the problems we face today will continue.

To have been recognised and listed by Forbes 30 under 30 for Manufacturing and Industry is just incredible, and aside from achieving one of my long-term career goals, this will hopefully increase awareness of our work and commitment to supporting more businesses looking to drive their clean-energy agenda.鈥澨

The Solisco EV-Port is a solar carport that enables users to park and sustainably charge their Electric Vehicle, by using solar photovoltaic [PV] modules that are used to convert sunlight into electricity.

Ideal for residential and commercial settings like the carparks of retail outlets, universities, leisure facilities and large corporations, the Solisco EV-Ports can transform ordinary carparks into innovative energy hubs, whilst reducing CO2 output and the increasing demand on the electricity grid.听

Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, the current pandemic has accelerated the urgency to drive new and sustainable energy solutions across the globe, where Solisco plans to play a pivotal role in ensuring the shift from petrol and diesel to electric vehicles remains as 鈥榗lean鈥 as possible.

Begum听explained: 鈥淭he COVID-19 pandemic has truly highlighted the importance of driving and implementing global sustainable energy solutions, as confirmed by the World Health Organisations [WHO].听

Although Electric Vehicles significantly reduce emissions, they still require power from the grid to work, which over time will become stretched. Solisco has worked with leading manufacturers and suppliers to develop a sophisticated EV-port solution to overcome this, harnessing the power of the sun and utilising battery storage and smart charging functionality so that everyone can enjoy the true freedom of driving an EV without any compromises.鈥

Solisco has worked multiple organisations worldwide and is headquartered at the E-Innovation 老九品茶 and Technology Centre in Telford, just a couple of miles away from the birthplace of Thomas Parker, the inventor of the world鈥檚 first electric vehicle.
