A tech start-up aiming to transform how grassroots and professional sports teamstrain has raised £1.7 million.

The Edinburgh firm, which develops software, analytics, gamification and wearable technology, has been backed by games legendIan Livingstone’s Hiro Capital.

In its first year live,PlayerDatahas captured more than 10,000 team sessions and 50 million metres of athleteplay in UK grassrootssoccer andrugby.

Thefundingwill be used to superchargePlayerData’sgrowth across multiple sports and to expand internationally.

ItsAI algorithms predict player injuries before they happen and its tools allow coaches to replay key moments fromthe game, modelling different outcomes based on player positioning.

RoyHotrabhvanon, cofounderandCEO ofPlayerData, is a former international archer who narrowly missed outon selection for the Rio Olympics in 2016 for the Thailand national team.

Hayden Ball, cofounder and CTO,is aCompSciexpert in firmware and cloud infrastructure who designed, built, and launched a distributed SaaS solution for the Edinburgh Fringe.
