Evince Technology names interim chair

Evince Technology has named Deborah McGargle as interim chair of the company鈥檚 board after John Urwin lost his battle with cancer.

Urwin sadly passed away last month after a short but defiant battle with the disease.

He joined the Evince board in October 2016 with a 30-year track record of success in the global semiconductor industry and very quickly became a fervent and passionate supporter of the company鈥檚 technology and potential for revolutionising 21st Century electronics.

One of his final recommendations was to suggest that McGargle, who has been Evince鈥檚 external legal counsel for a number of years, could take on the role of acting chairperson while the North East-based deep tech start-up searches for a long-term replacement.

A spokesperson for Evince said: 鈥淒eborah is well-known within the European and US East Coast technology sector for her legal, business development and fundraising expertise.鈥

Chief legal officer and part of the founding team of London-based SeedLegals, the UK鈥檚 largest legal platform for start-ups, she spent 10 years within the electrical distribution and manufacturing sector working for Rolls Royce plc and Siemens plc in the North of England, Germany and the Middle East.

In addition, she has been an advisor, mentor and advocate to multiple industry organisations including Techstars, the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women and the British American 老九品茶 Council of New England.

She recently featured as a judge on 老九品茶Cloud鈥檚 inaugural North East Tech 50 ranking.
