HMRC has appointed a new interim chief digital and information officer after Jacky Wright returned to Microsoft following her planned two-year role at the UK tax office.

Mark Denney has been tasked with leading the UK tax office鈥檚 digital transformation agenda while HMRC recruits for a permanent CDIO.

Denney is a former MD of Barclays and CIO at Barclays Corporate Bank and Payments. He has also held senior positions at JP Morgan Chase and GE Capital.

鈥淚鈥檓 delighted to welcome Mark to HMRC as our new chief digital and information officer,鈥 said Jim Harra, who was recently confirmed as HMRC鈥檚 chief executive and first permanent secretary.

鈥淗e was an exceptional candidate and his appointment enables us to continue our transformation to a digitally-enabled, world-class organisation.

鈥淗is experience in technological change and payments infrastructure is particularly relevant for us as we expand our online services to business and personal customers and implement the digital strategy we鈥檝e developed over the past two years.鈥

Denney, who will begin the role next week, said: 鈥淚鈥檓 really looking forward to joining HMRC at such an exciting time and to having the opportunity to build on the achievements of Jacky Wright.鈥
