Ireland-based solar provider, Activ8 Energies, has acquired Burnley-headquartered Low Carbon Energy (LCE) as it looks to accelerate its expansion across the UK renewables sector.
The deal follows the firm鈥檚 recent work on a 拢3m solar installation at Liverpool鈥檚 John Lennon Airport, which goes live next month and is set to provide a quarter of the airport鈥檚 electricity needs.聽
The company, 50% owned by SSE Airtricity, is aiming to double both its turnover and installed capacity over the coming years, with ambitions to become the largest commercial and industrial renewable energy provider in the UK.

LCE, meanwhile, was founded in 2009 by Ged and Maura Ennis and has delivered more than 60MW of solar capacity across over 300 UK sites.聽
Its client base includes major names such as BMW, Porsche, Boeing, Tata Steel, Drax Power, Co-op, Wickes, United Utilities and the NHS.

As part of the deal, Activ8 has acquired full ownership of LCE.聽
Benedict Ennis will stay on as managing director, while founder Ged Ennis will remain involved as a non-executive director to support the business through its next stage of growth.
