‘It’s a privilege and honour to win UK 老九品茶 Tech Award’

Technology

The great and the good of technology spoke of their 鈥榟onour and privilege鈥 to emerge triumphant at 老九品茶Cloud鈥檚 inaugural UK 老九品茶 Tech Awards.

It was an unforgettable night as the country’s best tech companies walked away with the spoils on Tuesday evening.

A total of 18 winners were recognised at a packed ceremony in London’s exclusive Montcalm Marble Arch Hotel for the way they’ve used technology.

Among them was Pankaj Chandak, transplant registrar at Guy’s, Evelina, Great Ormond Street Hospitals & King’s College London, who had the audience鈥檚 rapt attention as he explained on stage how the 3D-printing project he leads assists around 300 adult and 40 children renal transplants a year.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a privilege and a real honour to be here with such strong companies and competitors and to be recognised for this,鈥 he told 老九品茶Cloud after picking up the award for Healthtech Pioneer of the Year.

鈥淲e won it because we developed a pre-operative method of 3D-printing of an adult human kidney in a baby鈥檚 abdomen to plan difficult transplantation in children. It鈥檚 a novel technology we鈥檙e using for operative planning in difficult cases, which is what the award recognises.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a mark for the whole team. There are a lot of people who work very hard to try and give these children a good quality of life and get them through the transplant.

鈥淲e鈥檇 like to dedicate this award to the children, past present and future – those who we鈥檝e transplanted and those we are going to transplant.

鈥淚f it wasn鈥檛 for them inspiring us, we wouldn鈥檛 be here.鈥

Josephine Groom, CRM director at Invstr, spoke of her delight after the London firm 鈥 which has customers in 190 countries 鈥 picked up the FinTech Innovator of the Year gong.

鈥淲inning the award means we鈥檙e recognised for our efforts 鈥 it鈥檚 a great honour. We鈥檙e chuffed!鈥 she said.

鈥淭hese awards are always very important to start-ups. They help us get our name out there and understand in a competitive landscape if we鈥檙e doing the right thing versus everyone else.鈥

Gary Gallen鈥檚 legal tech firm rradar won Small Tech Company of the Year while the former high-flying corporate defence lawyer was also recognised with a 鈥楲ifetime Achievement鈥 award.

Among his achievements was seeing rradar become the first law firm in the world to be welcomed into the London Stock Exchange Group’s Elite Programme.

鈥淚鈥檓 absolutely delighted on behalf of the team to have won the award. It鈥檚 great recognition of five years of hard work and endeavour by the group of people at rradar,鈥 he said.

The event was sponsored by Jumpstart, The Technology Group and Touchscreen Rentals and attended by judges including former Vodafone exec Rob Mukherjee 鈥 now director of EveryCloud Security 鈥 Ruth Badger of the Ruth Badger Consultancy and Everything Tech, Sheffield Digital director Chris Dymond and Centre for Technology Awareness founder Dr Katy Cook.
