Moombix, a music education platform, has closed a seed funding round of over 拢1.9 million to launch and enter the UK market.
Moombix enables adult hobbyists and those with professional aspirations to have one-on-one online classes with expert teachers – offering instrument learning, voice coaching, DJing, as well as production and publication.
The round was led by Iceland鈥檚 Frumtak Ventures with participation from angel investors. It will be used to scale the marketplace and accelerate customer acquisition as well as the strategic launch into the UK, a territory in which it already has nearly 200 teachers signed-up to offer classes.
Moombix was founded by professional musician and entrepreneur Margret Juliana Sigurdardottir, who has performed with fellow Icelanders Bj枚rk and Sigur R贸s. Moombix is her second MusicTech startup, which she founded in 2022 after successfully exiting from Mussila.聽
Its approach is described as a lifestyle, encouraging adults to pursue their passion for personal growth and fulfilment, much like learning a language or practising yoga. Traditional music education often presents challenges such as location, scheduling and access to specialised skills, especially for those with busy lifestyles.聽
Moombix teachers already include respected musicians such as Grammy-nominated British singer-songwriter Richard Bedford, Andrew Morgan, long-term collaborator with Neil Davidge of Massive Attack and global music lecturer, and Steve Riggs, a DJ and producer who has worked with Sony, Armada Music, and deadmau5.
The team will also continue to develop the platform鈥檚 technical infrastructure – which already includes its proprietary video conferencing tool, its streamlined payment processing system and other digital tools that are tailored for live online music lessons.聽聽
