Two cyber criminals have been sentenced for committing offences against the National Lottery following a National Crime Agency investigation.

Thompson was arrested on 30 November 2016 鈥 forensic examination of his Lenovo laptop showed he had the 鈥榖rute forcer鈥 application and evidence of hacking. He admitted downloading files and said he was unaware that he was responsible for tens of thousands of log in attempts.

Akinwunmi was arrested on 21 December 2016.

He told officers: 鈥淚 was just being silly and na茂ve really鈥t was just a na茂ve act to make a little bit of cash.鈥

NCA senior investigating officer Lauren Morgan said: 鈥淣o one should think cyber crime is victimless or that they can get away with it. Even the most basic forms of cyber crime can have substantial impacts on victims.

鈥淭he NCA will purse and identify offenders and any conviction can be devastating to their futures.鈥
