A social video software startup based in London has raised investment from Wayra in Spain.
Sceenic is the creator of Watch Together, software which enables friends and family to watch content together over video while chatting.
Created in 2013, one of Sceenic鈥檚 main aims is to gain a greater foothold in Spain and expand into other European and Latin American markets where Telef贸nica, owner of open innovation hub Wayra, operates.
Sceenic鈥檚 global clients include BT Sport and ScreenHits TV in the UK; PCCW in Hong Kong; NPO in the Netherlands; Yes Network in the US; plus T-Mobile, the Eurovision Song Contest and NDR in Germany.
It can be rapidly implemented and offers a broad portfolio of software development kits (SDKs) for mobile, web, Smart TVs, tablets and set-top boxes.聽
鈥淭he entertainment sector has radically changed in recent years, a shift that intensified as a result of the pandemic, giving Sceenic a very attractive proposition,鈥 said Paloma Castellano, director of Wayra Madrid.
鈥淲ayra鈥檚 eagerness to get behind this project is a clear indicator of Telef贸nica鈥檚 interest in these new forms of digital entertainment, which are increasingly found in the homes of millions of people.鈥
Jonathan Williams, COO at Sceenic, added: 鈥淎s a team, it has been rewarding to welcome Wayra into the family.聽
鈥淚t is proof of the great potential they see in Sceenic as a company, and of the shared vision we have of bringing people together.聽
鈥淭elef贸nica鈥檚 great understanding of our technology will enable us to evolve even faster and give us greater access to new industries.鈥
