Design automation firm DriveWorks has been backed with 拢4 million growth funding.

The Queen鈥檚 Award-winning company, headquartered in Warrington, is plotting further international expansion following the investment from 听BGF.

DriveWorks works with manufacturing and engineering businesses to provide innovative design automation and 3D sales product configuration software solutions.

The fast-growing technology company was co-founded by CEO Glen Smith and VP Maria Sarkar in 2001 with the creation of DriveWorks software as a design tool to automate SOLIDWORKS, a 3D CAD design platform.

With an already established userbase in the US, DriveWorks鈥 technology has global reach and is utilised by thousands of customers across 47 countries.

BGF鈥檚 funding will support continued investment in technology to accelerate growth and position the business to address the significant market demand for customised 3D product visualisation in an increasingly virtual world.

A Manchester-based developer of materials for flexible electronics has undergone a reverse acquisition and raised听拢17.6 million.

SmartKe尘鈥檚听deal with听Parasol Investments, a publiclyowned听corporation听based in Delaware,听sees听the North West firm听become a wholly owned subsidiary of Parasol, with听Parasol changing听its name to听SmartKem听Inc.

SmartKe尘鈥檚听Ian Jenks becomes CEO of the company with fellow director听Robert Bahns named CFO.听

OtherSmartKem听directorsDr.听Simon King, Klaas de Boer and Barbra Keck have become the directors of听thecompany.听

鈥淭he success of this financing surpassed our expectations, and we believe demonstrates investor confidence in听SmartKem, our technology, product, current customer traction and the market opportunity,鈥 said Jenks.

This financing will allow us to continue to scale production of our听truFLEX听inks, our听electrical听design听automation听tools and expand our听foundry听s别谤惫颈肠别蝉.鈥

The听truFLEX听technology deposits organic ink on a substrate at a temperature as low as 80掳C, enabling manufacturers to use a range of low-cost flexible plastic substrates using existing industry standard equipment and infrastructure.听

SmartKem听says its听transistor stacks are flexible, bendable, wearable and lightweight and can be used in听a number of听different applications, including bendable smart-phone displays, foldable laptops, TV backlights, curved automotive displays,听colorePaper听displays, wearables, fingerprint and X-ray detectors as well as printed biosensors.

A North West pilot which has helped hundreds of SME manufacturers access technology and digital tools to boost productivity, growth and create jobs is to continue as part of a 拢8M government rollout.

The successful initiative becomes part of the government鈥檚 Made Smarter Adoption programme, which now expands into the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the West Midlands regions.

It means hundreds of more manufacturers in Cheshire and Warrington, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Liverpool City Region, will be able to learn how digital transformation can help them recover, grow, and create resilience.

Donna Edwards, Made听Smarter鈥檚听North West Adoption Director, said: 鈥淚 am delighted that the Government has continued to support the North West Adoption programme.

鈥淥ver the last two years we have worked tirelessly to drive digital technology usage among SME makers across the North West with significant success.听

鈥淭he programme has proven the value technology can bring to the manufacturing sector. We have helped hundreds of North West makers start their digital journey by providing them with specialist advice to help them select the right approach, level of investment and tools for their business

鈥淲ith the additional funding, we are able to continue reaching out to the region鈥檚 SME manufacturers to connect them to the tools that will make an everyday difference to their businesses.鈥

Since its launch two years ago, the North West programme has engaged with 1,165 businesses in the region to help them join the Industry 4.0 revolution.

568 have received intensive support including expert, impartial technology advice, digital transformation workshops to help take their first steps to transform their business, a leadership programme, and funded digital technology internships.听

145 businesses have secured 拢3.5M matched funding for 180 projects, leveraging 拢10M of private sector investment.听

These projects are forecast to deliver an additional 拢138M in gross value added (GVA) for the North West economy over the next three years, create over 800 new jobs, and upskill 1,700 existing roles.

The success of the North West Adoption programme will be celebrated at a .

Curated by manufacturers for manufacturers, the conference features an impressive line-up of industry heavyweights who will showcase the ‘why?’, ‘what?’ and ‘how?’ of digital manufacturing, including: Juergen Maier, Chair of the Digital Catapult and co-Chair of the Made Smarter Commission; Stephen听Phipson, the Chief Executive of Make UK, the manufacturers’ organisation; Andrea Hough, Managing Director of ATEC Engineering Solutions; and Glyn Jones, Service Delivery Director at BAE Systems and Chair of the Made Smarter Pilot Steering Group.
