Connected vehicle firm wejo in US partnership

Technology

UK tech firm wejo is to partner with US and Israel-based Waycare on a new project which will combine the duo鈥檚 tech.

Founded by Richard Barlow in 2014, wejo provides information to a variety of end-users including insurers, local authorities and breakdown recovery services by tracking seven million connected cars.

As part of the new long-term partnership, Waycare will use wejo鈥檚 connected car data to create more accurate traffic management solutions, in a project in Nevada, which will eventually expand to other US states.

Waycar鈥檚 software, which tracks traffic and uses machine learning to improve traffic and safety management operations, is already used by Nevada鈥檚 transportation and safety management agencies when identify and responding to incidents.

With Wejo鈥檚 data supplementing Waycare鈥檚 existing traffic data, agencies will receive a more accurate data set and can detect and predict incidents and determine risk on roadways faster.

In February US automotive giant General Motors took a 35 per cent stake in the business.

鈥淎lmost all drivers in highly populated areas experience a great deal of traffic congestion, delayed journeys, and an increased risk of accidents,鈥 said wejo Chief Executive, Richard Barlow.

鈥淲e are working together with Waycare to reduce these delays and improve road safety.鈥

Waycare CIO, Shai Suzan added: 鈥淭he dynamic nature of the urban environment requires that agencies become more proactive about the conditions on their roads. We are thrilled to support cities around the USA by providing a solution that has already demonstrated an improvement in congestion and road safety in Nevada.鈥
