Technology

London challenger bank Revolut has announced plans for a new tech hub in Germany.

The UK firm, which launched three years ago, offers app-based banking with an accompanying card.

The Berlin location will create around 80 new jobs in software engineering, data science, product management and marketing when it launches in October of this year.

Rival firm N26 is headquartered in Berlin, which is fast becoming a global FinTech hub though the firm鈥檚 global head of marketing told Yahoo that it is 鈥渘ot looking to necessarily steal [staff] from a particular company.鈥

The firm reports that there are already 150,000 Revolut customers in Germany, and it will look to localise its tech for the market with its new hires.

The new office will also support its wider business goals, supporting international expansion, and a new commission-free stock trading feature.

鈥淭here is an incredible amount of technical talent in Berlin, as we begin to scale our operations globally and expand our range of services, finding this kind of talent will be essential,鈥 said Vlad Yatsenko, co-founder and CTO at Revolut.

鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to begin our investment in Germany and create even more jobs in Berlin鈥檚 vibrant FinTech ecosystem.鈥
