Standing out from the crowd as aĀ job seeker can be tough ā but one graduateās innovative approach has paid off.
In March, ādespairingā graduate Anastasia Glover penned a rap about the struggles of job hunting and sent it to recruiter, Forward Role Recruitment.
The company’s CEO Steve ThompsonĀ posted the rap on LinkedIn where it received more than 100,000 views in 24 hours and thousands of shares, likes and comments. Glover was then inundated with offers of internships and work experience.
Some of those companies included marketing agency Social Chain and radio station brand Global, which includes Heart, Capital, Smooth FM and Radio X.
Thompson has confirmed that 21-year-old Glover has now secured a full-time role atĀ Manchester coding school Code Nation as a content specialist.
āThe story about the rap went far and wide and it led to some amazing opportunities with some brilliant companies,ā said Glover.
āI spent time in London with Global and worked on some amazing things at Social Chain. But the point of the rap and the reason why I got in touch with Steve in the first place was to get a full-time role and Iām over the moon to have that opportunity with Code Nation.
āCode Nation do some brilliant work supporting people just like me who are developing new skills to further their careers. Iām so grateful that they gave me a chance.ā
Code Nation was launched in Manchester last September help curb the āmounting digital skills shortageā facing businesses in the city and across the region, giving anyone with an appetite for digital the chance to learn to code.
Thompson said: āWe are approached by a lot of graduates but very few capture our attention in the way that Anastasia did. She had a really tough time trying to find work and get noticed in an ever-increasingly competitive market.
āBut it was clear as soon as I met her that she was someone with a huge talent, who was going to do everything she could to get where she wanted to be, and Iām delighted that sheās secured her first permanent role.
āThis story got so much attention and received so much coverage earlier in the year and itās so nice to see it reach a happy conclusion.ā
Glover concludes: āIt was a slightly daft email and the attention on the back of it was crazy, but it just goes to show what can happen if youāre willing to be creative. Iām really excited about my future now.ā
