Yorkshire pub quiz tech start-up announces record growth

A Yorkshire tech start-up hoping to breathe new tech into the pub quiz industry has announced its strongest ever trading month in November.

York-based聽SpeedQuizzing said it is on track to become a 拢1m business within the next few years.

Its interactive online quiz platform and app allows pubs to replace pen and paper with visitor鈥檚 smartphones or tablets.

It a monthly sales of its digital quiz packs exceeding 4,500 in November for the first time, with sales over the last three months exceeding 12,500 in total, marking a 30 per cent year-on-year growth.

The app is now used to run quizzes in over 800 pubs across the UK every week.

SpeedQuizzing is a family run company which directly employs 14 people, including five question writers who create and add 1,500 new questions to SpeedQuizzing鈥檚 question database every month.

Alan Leach, best-known as the drummer in British indie band Shed Seven, and younger sibling John founded the firm and hope to build on this momentum in 2020

The brother are now looking to take their app into new markets outside of the pub sector by building on the 225 SpeedQuizzing events currently hosted in over 25 countries every week, including the USA, New Zealand and India.

鈥2019 has been a milestone year for SpeedQuizzing, with pubs all over the UK using our industry leading software to drive footfall, sales and fun in their establishments,鈥 said John.

We鈥檙e also looking at how we can better cater for international audiences and exploring the possibility of developing content in a host of foreign languages.鈥
