Property developer Beech Holdings has been given the green light to convert a Grade II-listed building in Manchester city centre into carbon-neutral homes.
Number 2 Waterloo Street used to be part of a factory and packing warehouse but has been empty for 70 years.
Beech Holdings will convert it into 17 apartments: eight with one bedroom, four with two bedrooms, three studios and two Duplexes.
鈥淚 am delighted to announce that we have received planning permission for Number 2 Waterloo Street from Manchester City Council,鈥 said Beech Holdings owner Stephen Beech.
鈥淲e feel honoured to have the support of the council to restore this beautiful building for the enjoyment of many generations to come.
鈥淣ow that the development money has officially been allocated, we will focus our efforts to ensure new tenants can enjoy beautiful carbon-neutral homes within six months.”

鈥淚t鈥檚 a forgotten gem and has been a 鈥榞host building鈥 for a long time,” Beech said of 2 Waterloo Street.
鈥淵ou can literally see the last people who have walked there. There are dints from workers鈥 steel clogs which obviously chipped away at the floor.
鈥淲e will invest 拢1.2m on Number 2 Waterloo Street鈥檚 transformation and are very pleased to be doing so as, otherwise, it would have just been allowed to crumble and decay.
鈥淥ur Beech Construction arm will bring this to market within six months, with the apartments boasting tall ceilings and open light living spaces.鈥
Beech Holdings bought the building for 拢1m.
