Technology

The Loop has been selected by Telcom Networks to deliver faster internet to 15 prominent buildings in Manchester city centre.

The dedicated fibre network says it will deliver speeds more than three hundred times faster than standard broadband to start-ups in co-working spaces XYZ Building in Spinningfields and Federation House, formerly the Coop Group鈥檚 headquarters as well as 24 Lever Street, 1 Exchange Quay and 196 Deansgate.

鈥淭his initiative, which takes fibre directly to the building at a new low cost has the potential to be truly transformational for businesses in these buildings,鈥 said Ashley Griffiths, Managing Director of The Loop.

鈥淚鈥檓 delighted that Telcom has chosen to use our network to deliver the services.鈥

The Loop has 160 km of dark fibre in Manchester and will be extending its reach to increase capacity this year. The Loop offers connectivity to all of Manchester鈥檚 leading datacentres and also links Manchester鈥檚 main commercial districts.

The 10-year deal could see up to 40 buildings from the Northern Quarter to Spinningfields and First Street to Ancoats connected by the end of this year.

鈥淭his fits extremely well with our digital strategy,鈥 said Sean Anstee, Greater Manchester鈥檚 Lead for Skills and Employment.

鈥淚t will support our ambitions to be a leading tech city, creating jobs, attracting and retaining talent and enabling small businesses, particularly those in the creative sector to have affordable and accessible top grade internet. This will allow them to stay ahead of the competition, flourish and grow.鈥
