Olympic champion Matt Langridge says the fine margin between victory and defeat is making technology increasingly important in rowing.
Langridge, who rowed to gold in Rio last year with the Team GB聽eight crew, spoke with editor Chris Maguire at the recent In The City Club Manchester event at the city鈥檚 Town Hall.
鈥淪ometimes the margins even surprise me,鈥� he said. 鈥淭here are so many variables that can affect things over those 2,000 metres.
鈥淭he more the sport grows and the more people put into it, technology becomes more and more important. Everyone is always looking for that edge and trying to improve.
鈥淛ust looking at the way you train isn鈥檛 enough anymore. Now you have to look at training smart 鈥� and technology is helping us to do that.鈥�
The twice world champion, who won silver at Beijing 2008 then bronze at London 2012 in the same event before completing the set in Brazil, was awarded an MBE in the Queen鈥檚 New Year Honours List this year for his achievements.
