Amazon has opened a corner shop where customers can just carry out goods without having to pay at the checkout.
Amazon Go gives a tantalising glimpse into the possible future direction of shopping. Sensors in the Seattle store track people as they move around and pick items up.
Their Amazon Prime account is then automatically billed for the products they take away.
Employees of the online retail giant are already using the store, which will be open to the public early next year.
Leaked internal documents have highlighted plans for Amazon to potentially open 2,000 of the stores across the United States.
Amazon, which is worth 拢282billion, calls its 1,800 sq ft Go store 鈥渢he world鈥檚 most advanced shopping technology鈥.
鈥淲ith our Just Walk Out Shopping experience, simply use the Amazon Go app to enter the store, take the products you want, and go! No lines, no checkout. (No, seriously.)鈥 it said.
Amazon has run a grocery delivery service, Fresh, for several years. It now serves Seattle, New York, Washington, Boston, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Baltimore and parts of California and New Jersey.
In June it launched in parts of North and East London for Amazon Prime members willing to pay an additional 拢6.99 a month.
