老九品茶es have been urged to invest in IT talent to cater for surging demand in online sales.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show consumers are increasingly making their purchases online.

The value of online transactions grew by 21.5 per cent in May compared with the corresponding month in 2015.

It also increased by 6.4 per cent compared with April 2016, showing the speed with which shopping habits are changing.

Farida Gibbs, the CEO and founder of staffing and project solutions specialists Gibbs S3, said retailers without a strong digital strategy will be left floundering.

鈥淲ith the online landscape constantly changing, businesses need to access digital expertise in order for them to capitalise,鈥 she said.

鈥淕oing online can be daunting for businesses who do not have a team which understands how it works and how best to reach customers.鈥

Companies are seeking to grow their e-commerce offering and plug any gaps in the system and customer service journey which could affect customer satisfaction.

鈥淭o cope with consumer demand, a hybrid approach to workforce solutions is necessary, combining traditional forms of recruitment with project consultancy,鈥 Gibbs added.

鈥淭his allows businesses to scale up or down resources dependant on project needs, with this flexibility being crucial to positive outcomes.鈥
