A 30-second YouTube video of Google Assistant firing an air gun at an apple has sparked an online conversation about the ethics of artificial intelligence.
Alexander Reben told Engadget that although he picked Google Assistant to perform the task, he could have used Amazon’s Echo or other virtual assistants.
“Part of the message for me includes the unintended consequences of technology and the futility of considering every use case,” Reben said.
Google Assistant fired a gun: We need to talk

Google shoots a gun. Can we talk about ethics in AI now please?
— Kate Bischoff (@k8bischHRLaw)
Seriously??
“[A person] told Assistant to “activate gun.” But in a world where machine learning has led to AI that’s smart enough to anticipate our needs, it’s not hard to imagine digital assistants kill off people who upset us, if given access to weapons”— Yarin (@yaringal)
Another move closer to Skynet… Google Assistant is taught to fire a gun…
— Dave Hatton (@DaveHatton)
It will be a matter of time until smart speakers turned bad artist and Alexander Reben did teach Assistant on a Google Home to fire a gun.
